A community of advocates, educators, and animal lovers dedicated to changing the narrative around Muscovy ducks. We believe these birds deserve respect, kindness, and a place in our shared environment.

OUR STORY
The Heart Behind Project Muscovy
Project Muscovy was born out of a deep love and appreciation for these misunderstood birds. What started as a simple fascination grew into a mission to educate, advocate, and protect Muscovy ducks from the misinformation and mistreatment they often face.
Our founder, Patrick Corcoran, developed his love for Muscovy ducks through one life-changing moment. One day, a Muscovy hen named Judy (pictured) walked up with her ducklings, trusting and unafraid, as if she knew she had found someone who would understand her. That moment changed everything. Seeing how she cared for her babies and interacted with such intelligence and warmth sparked a deep admiration for Muscovy ducks and a desire to protect them.
So Project Muscovy isn’t just about facts and research; it’s personal. Seeing their gentle nature firsthand, watching them form deep family bonds, and witnessing their resilience in the face of adversity made it impossible to ignore the challenges they endure. Muscovy ducks are kind, intelligent, and deeply connected to those who care for them. They ask for so little, yet give so much.
That is why Project Muscovy exists! To tell their story, fight for their protection, and change how the world sees these incredible birds.
Our Partner in Protection:
The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida
We're proud to support The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida, a volunteer-run 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing lifelong care for Muscovy ducks in need.
Founded by Gail Dixon after she recognized there was no dedicated facility for these birds, the Sanctuary fills a critical gap. When Muscovies are injured, abandoned, or displaced, most veterinarians and wildlife rehabbers turn them away because they aren't classified as native wildlife. The Sanctuary steps in where no one else will.
Here’s what the sanctuary does:
Rescue and care for injured and abandoned Muscovies, but unfortunately, the Sanctuary is currently at full capacity.
Egg Collection Programs, which is a humane alternative to population culling that reduces conflicts without killing
Provide lifelong sanctuary to ducks who have nowhere else to go
Educate the public on coexistence and compassionate solutions
As a board member of the Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida, I've seen firsthand how much this organization does. They receive no government funding, meaning every rescue, every meal, every medical expense is covered by donations from people who believe these ducks deserve a chance.
The Sanctuary is currently at full capacity. While they are unable to take in new ducks at this time, the flock they already care for still depends on ongoing support every single day, such as food, medical care, and shelter, which don't stop being needed just because the doors are full. And as they work toward expanding to a larger location, your support today is what makes that future possible.
